EQUINE EXPERIENCE ENDS FIRST DAY OF MANE EVENT IN RED DEER Red Deer. AB – Day One of the Mane Event came to a noisy close Friday as spectators showed their appreciation for the fast paced lineup entertainment at the Equine Experience.

The evening spectacular also included some emotional moments. Selena Dickman concluded her exciting ride atop two of her ExDream Performance Horses and then introduced her husband Gord. Mane Event attendees made generous donations to the family two years ago when he experienced a life-threatening accident.

The audience applauded as a cheque was presented to Can Praxis by CHARMD (Canadian Horse Association Rocky Mountain District). While the Canadian Forces uses team building, communications training and leadership development to prepare soldiers for war, Can Praxis uses horses to help soldiers recover from it and regain their family relationships.

When the doors opened Friday for the 8th year at Westerner Park, a rush of spectators headed to the trade fair to begin shopping, and to the arenas to learn from the knowledgeable clinicians brought in for the Event. The stands filled up quickly for the Trainers Challenge which this year features an all-Canadian lineup. Albertans Kent Williamson and Tom Durocher along with Russ Krachun (Ontario) were introduced to the two-year-old unbroken horses supplied again this year by Ace of Clubs Quarter Horses. Challenge judge Stan Jacobs, the Douglas Lake Ranch cow boss, observed that the mare and two geldings being worked with are well suited for the training event. “The trainers kept their secrets up their sleeve so we will be seeing the horses responding to that and the trainers’ abilities,” he said.

New this year, even those who are unable to make it to the Mane Event in person can follow along with the Trainers Challenge by accessing live streaming of each session. The live streaming, provided by ILink Media, can be accessed through the Mane Event website. The web broadcast will be available for a year.
